XV. Rear of Trailer
The rear of the unit, if so equipped, will have the spare mounted on
the bumper, and the ladder to access the roof. Note: newer trailers
have rubber roofs. Walking on the roof is discouraged, but if you do,
be aware there are certain weight limits. Also, be sure to remove your
shoes or at least clean debris from the bottom of them which could
gouge the roof material. Periodically check the caulking on the roof
for voids and cracks to prevent leaks. If you detect any voids or
cracks take your unit to your dealer and get the roof resealed. This
will be money well spent to prevent rot to the interior of your
valuable RV.
XVI. Dump Station
The driver side, or the off door side, has a dump station located on the
lower portion of the unit. The dump stations’ purpose is to remove the
waste and waste water from the unit. (Ill. 34) The station consists of a
black and a gray pull knife valve. A black cap should be on the 3”
dump pipe. It is required that you keep the cap on during transit. To
dump your waste, remove the cap and attach the sewer dump hose.
Run the hose into the dump station. Pull the black valve and let the
sewer waste flow (Note: the black water is the waste from the toilet).
When you no longer hear the flow, shut the black water valve, pull the
grey water valve, and let it flow (grey water is the waste water from
the sink, the shower/tub, and the bathroom sink). If the valves or not
color coded, the larger of the two valves is the black water. Once all
the waste is out, shut the gray water valve and remove the hose. Most
dump stations have a water hose to wash off the spillage. Remember
at this time, if you are going to continue to camp, add at least 7-10
gal of water to the commode and the chemicals to keep the waste soluble. Chemicals can be purchased at your dealer.
When camping where there is a sewer dump site, always leave the
black valve shut till the monitor panel reads 2/3 or full, then dump.
The reason for this is that if the valve is left open, the liquid waste
will run out and the solid waste will stick to the tank and eventually
clog up the tank. If this occurs, the tank may need to be replaced by
your dealer. It is ok to leave the grey valve open because is doesn’t
have any solid waste and will flow out properly. Close the gray water
valve prior to leaving the campsite. The reason is to have some water
in the gray water tank to assist flushing when dumping the black
water tank.
XVII. City Water Hookup
In the same area as the dump station is the city water hookup. It will
have a garden hose female connection and is usually labeled. (Ill. 35)
Remember that you should always use a pressure reducer somewhere
in the hose before it enters the unit. Excessive water pressure can
damage your unit.

XXIX. Water Heater
The water heater switch (Ill. 44) is on the monitor panel, or could be located in the kitchen area separately. It turns on the DSI in the water heater which will automatically light itself. If the water heater indicator light is on, with the water heater switch in the on position, the water heater did not light. Turn the switch off then back on to reset. If the water heater switch is in the on position and the indicator light is out, then the water heater is lit. Some water heaters operate on 120 volt AC, this switch will be located beside the 12 volt DC switch. If the water heater is in the 120 volt AC mode, it will pull 10 amps. You can either run the water heater on LP or 120 volt or both. If the 120 volt switch cannot be located, some units just have a breaker in the breaker box which would be so labeled. There may be an on/off switch on the outside of the trailer inside the water heater cover. This switch is usually located in the lower left corner. (Ill. 45)

Near the water heater are the water pipes. Here you will see the water
heater bypass valve. (Ill. 46) The purpose of this bypass valve is to
help winterize the system and to bypass the water heater all together.
In the photo (Ill. 46) the position for the valve in normal operating
position is shown. Here the bypass valve is shown in the bypass
position. (Ill. 47) NOTE: when in the bypass mode make sure the
120 volt breaker is off as to not blow the heating element.
